COURTESY CHRISTIE’S
An untitled Joe Bradley painting from 2011 sold for £986,500 ($1,569,522) at the Christie’s contemporary sale in London this evening, nearly doubling its £500,000 high estimate.
Interest in work by the artist has been steadily increasing over the past few years, according to Artnet’s price database. His previous auction high was $965,000, attained this past May at a special Christie’s sale before the contemporary auction.
Bradley was featured in the 2008 Whitney Biennial and in 2011 was subject of a Bloomberg story headlined “How Joe Bradley’s Prices Surged 1,100% in Five Years: Hot Art.” If the seller of this work acquired it around that time, he would have purchased it for around $40,000 to $70,000, according to that story.
