John Houck, the Los Angeles–based artist whose abstract pictures meditate on the relationship between photographs and the objects they represent, is now represented by Marianne Boesky Gallery. Houck’s work is currently on view at Boesky West, the New York gallery’s satellite in Aspen, Colorado. His photographs will appear this December at the gallery’s Art Basel Miami Beach booth.
Houck, who was previously represented in New York by the now-closed On Stellar Rays gallery, creates densely layered images that make it unclear what’s really in front of the camera and what’s simply a rephotographed image. His work memorably appeared in the 2015 edition of “New Photography” at the Museum of Modern Art.
“John’s practice is such a beautiful combination of meticulous technique and creative play,” Marianne Boesky said in a statement. “His fluid movement between a variety of approaches and genres pushes the boundaries of understood artistic hierarchies and frameworks, and arouses a sense of boundless possibility.”
