Change continues to rock Manhattan’s Lower East Side art district, as Kansas announced this afternoon that it will shut its doors, in an email that features a photo of a handsome and relaxed President Barack Obama waving as he boards Air Force One.
It is the latest in a series of gallery closings in the neighborhood, which has included Laurel Gitlen earlier this year and Lisa Cooley last month.
Kansas, run by Steven Stewart, opened in 2011 in TriBeCa and moved to the Lower East Side last year. Over its five years in business the gallery gave shows to artists like Mira Dancy, Virginia Poundstone, Ethan Greenbaum, and Rachel de Joode.
