Stuart Shave, the proprietor of the London gallery Modern Art, announced today that he now represents Peter Halley and Josh Kline. Both artists are currently based in New York.
Kline has made the news quite a bit lately late, with a critically acclaimed show earlier this year at 47 Canal, which represents him in New York, and a growing market. That show, a dystopic look at software putting humans out of work, is set to travel to the Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo in Turin, Italy, later this year.
Halley, the senior of the two, is one of the progenitors of the term “conceptual abstraction,” a postmodern technique that uses abstraction as a method for commenting on its own history. Halley’s paintings often look like modernist ones, yet he turns their geometrical forms into prisons or industrial elements, rendering them in warm, stark colors.
