COURTESY YOUNG ART
Young Art, the venturesome Los Angeles gallery that operated in various locations for a decade, announced in an email blast that it has closed. During its long run, Young Art gave early solo shows to a number of superb artists, including Asher Penn, Paul Cowan, Milano Chow, and Kayla Guthrie. It also hosted two-person shows with Cara Benedetto and Davida Nemeroff and group shows that included work by Jared Madere, Greg Parma Smith, Dena Yago, Robert Bittenbender, Heather Guertin, Martine Syms, and many more.
“Young Art is closed,” the email announcement read. “Thanks for everything.” It was signed, “Love always, Kate and Paul”—Kate being Kate Hillseth, who founded the enterprise and her husband, Paul Forney, who ran it with her. The gallery did not reply to a request for comment about the decision to close. Its final show, Stephen Aldahl’s fourth with the gallery, ended in April.
The full text of the email, with an impressive list of artists that Young Art exhibited, follows below.
