Luhring Augustine announced today that it has added the estate of Jeremy Moon to its roster. Later this month, the New York gallery will host the first solo exhibition of the British artist’s work in the U.S.
Moon, whose career began in the early 1960s London scene, is best known for his large-scale geometric paintings, which bear the influences of Color Field and Hard-Edge Abstraction. In a news release, the gallery writes, “His use of the grid as a structural device was central to his working method; its rigid organization, yet flexible expandability, allowed him to bracket fields of color in a manner that was exploratory and effectual. Moon shrank, enlarged, skewed, and folded the grid across numerous works in his efforts to reveal ambiguity in pictorial space.”
The solo exhibition of Moon’s work, opening at Luhring Augustine’s Bushwick location on January 13, will include shaped canvases and a multipart floor sculpture that was completed just a year before the artist’s death in 1973 at the age of 39.
