For the 2019 edition of the ARCOmadrid Art Fair, its current director, Carlos Urroz, will serve as co-director with Maribel López, after which Urroz will step down and Lopez will assume the chief role. The fair, which is entering it’s 38th year, is set to take place fro February 27 through March 4 in the Spanish capital.
López, who has worked with the fair under Urroz since 2011, said in a statement to press, “I am aware of the responsibility and the challenge that I am taking on, but I am confident that I can count on an exceptional human team and the support of a large organization which I thank for putting its trust in me.”
After the fair, Urroz plans to pursue new projects outside of ARCO. He said in the same release, “I appreciate the support I have received during these years from all the public and private sectors. With ARCOmadrid 2019, I will close a professional and personal cycle based on the conviction that periodical renewal at the head of large cultural institutions is highly desirable in order to let new approaches and perspectives come to the fore.”
