New York’s Bureau gallery has hired Mary Grace Wright to be its director. She joins the Lower East Side spot from SoHo’s Team Gallery, where she was associate director. Before Team, Wright was director at Chelsea’s Martos Gallery and helped start its Shoot the Lobster project-space initiative, which has gone on to stage shows all over the U.S. and Europe.
Run by Gabrielle Giattino, Bureau shows emerging and mid-career artists like Matt Hoyt, Julia Rommel, Ellie Ga, and Erica Baum. Last year it moved from an intimate, roughly 250-square-foot storefront on Henry Street (now home to Nicole Russo’s ChapterNY gallery) to a larger space on Norfolk Street.
“Gabrielle understands the community and has unwavering support for her artists and colleagues,” Wright said in an e-mail. “With her institutional background and critical eye, she has cultivated a forward-looking gallery program that I’m excited to develop further.”
Next up for Bureau: a Baum show in September, a trip to Frieze London in October, and a Hoyt show in November.
