The Scene in Dubai
Artsy profiles Abdelmonem Bin Eisa Alserkal, the property developer and patron behind Alserkal Avenue, the fast-growing arts hub in Dubai. “I thought: ‘why not have more of a destination, or a community, of art galleries and creative businesses,’ ” Alserkal said of his reasoning for starting the hub. The Talent
The January 2018 issue of Artforum is the first with David Velasco at the helm, and its theme is “The Use of Power.” In his editor’s letter, Velasco alludes to the allegations of sexual harassment against former publisher Knight Landesman, writing, “We’re still figuring things out at Artforum, as one sad man I once knew goes off, faces a fate of his own making. I don’t yet know how this future ‘us’ is supposed to look. But we will listen, and we will try, and when we mess up we’ll be in the mess together.” [Artforum]
The New York Times reports that the Foundation for Contemporary Arts will give $40,000 in grants to the poets Anne Boyer, Fred Moten, and Linda Robertson. Moten is the recipient of the organization’s first Roy Lichtenstein Award. [The New York Times]

On the New Yorker’s website, a slideshow offers a look inside Paul Cézanne’s studio via a set of photographs by Joel Meyerowitz. The photographer is best known for his outdoors work, so “it may come as something of a surprise to learn that Meyerowitz recently headed indoors, to chase the ghost of another master of color and light,” Andrea K.
