The Whitney Museum of American Art announced at a dinner on Tuesday night that its new building in the Meatpacking District would be christened the Leonard A. Lauder building, after the museum’s chairman emeritus. [The New York Times]
The Kunstmuseum Bern in Bern, Switzerland, and the Bundeskunsthalle in Bonn, Germany, are both planning to mount shows comprised of some of the hundreds of works of art held by the late Cornelius Gurlitt. Gurlitt’s father came into possession of the pieces as an art dealer in Nazi Germany. [The New York Times]
DECISIONS
Sweden’s supreme court has ruled that a website documenting public art in Sweden has violated copyright law. Wikimedia Sweden is quoted as saying it is “greatly disappointed” by the ruling. [BBC]
