Tania Bruguera pulled out of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale in India in order to stay in Cuba to combat government censorship. She was recently detained there for protesting Decree 349, which gives the government broad authority to regulate artists. [The Art Newspaper]
Fresh off his success with Love Is the Message, the Message Is Death, Arthur Jafa is presenting a new work at the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive in California that focuses on whiteness. [The Guardian]
Elizabeth Rowe, the principal flutist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, is suing the organization, alleging that she has been underpaid because of gender discrimination. The BSO has denied the claim. [The Washington Post]
The Talent
Bortolami gallery in New York is now working with the freewheeling abstract painter Rebecca Morris, who’s based in Los Angeles. [Bortolami]
