New York City
Robin Pogrebin looks at the status of racial diversity at New York arts institutions. According to information collected via surveys by the city, “while 67 percent of New York City residents identify as people of color, only 38 percent of employees at cultural organizations describe themselves that way.” [The New York Times]

Councilman Stephen Levin is calling for the removal of a portrait of Reconstruction opponent Horatio Seymour from City Hall. Seymour, who was twice governor of New York State, ran for president with the slogan, “Our ticket, Our Motto: This is a White Man’s Country; Let White Men Rule.” [Politico]
