Diane Arbus photographs, African-American art from the Deep South, and Salvator Mundi have made the Art Newspaper’s list of 2017’s top museum acquisitions. One item on their list stands out: the “Pussyhat,” which was added to the Victoria & Albert Museum’s collection after appearing at many Women’s Marches around the world. [The Art Newspaper]

Yesterday, ARTnews reported that Knight Landesman’s lawyers filed a motion to dismiss a suit brought against him by Amanda Schmitt, who has alleged that the former Artforum publisher sexually harassed her in the years during and after she was employed at the magazine. His motion follows a similar one filed by Artforum’s lawyers two weeks ago. [ARTnews]
A German family believes it is the rightful owner of a 1913 Franz Marc painting currently in the collection of Düsseldorf’s Museum Kunstplast, the Art Newspaper reports. The family claims that the work was sold in Nazi Germany, to help pay for fees levied against Jews, and that the museum should return the work. [The Art Newspaper]
Museums
The New Orleans Museum of Art will expand its sculpture garden, Artforum reports. The addition will add six acres to the museum’s property, and in that new space will be an amphitheater, a new gallery, and more. [Artforum]
For the New York Times, Holland Cotter writes on the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum, which opened a week and a half ago, on the occasion of the state’s bicentennial. “The museum’s approach to these wrenching episodes is calculatedly theatrical, and effective,” Cotter writes. [The New York Times]
Architecture
Architectural Digest reports that Hiroshi Sugimoto has been commissioned to spruce up the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden’s lobby. He’ll add to it digital displays and new furniture, and take away the dark film on the lobby’s windows that previously obscured views of the National Mall. [Architectural Digest]
The Tenney Building in Madison, Wisconsin, has been added to the National Register of Historic Places, the Wisconsin State Journal reports. The building, which was completed in 1930, is known as a particularly fine example of Art Deco architecture. [Wisconsin State Journal]
Music
The experimental musician Daniel Lopatin, also known as Oneohtrix Point Never, is one of 141 artists eligible for the Oscar for Best Original Score, the Academy announced yesterday. He’s being recognized for his score for Josh and Benny Safdie’s Good Time. [Press Release]
