COURTESY NADA
Some art fair news in the doldrums of August: the New Art Dealers Association has released the exhibitor list for its annual fair in Miami Beach, which is timed to coincide with the run of Art Basel in early December. This year, NADA will present booths by 108 galleries from 16 different countries, including 23 galleries that have never shown at the fair before.
“NADA was founded to fill a void in the art world by providing a community where lesser-known international galleries, emerging artists, artist-run spaces, and both young and established galleries can co-exist,” NADA’s director, Heather Hubbs, said in a statement. She also noted the increased presence of galleries from Colombia, Germany, and Poland.
A glance through the participating galleries shows some small shifts from years past. A year ago, 43 new galleries were showing for the first time, so this December there will be less of a shakeup, and more of a similar spread. But there are some prominent newcomers at the fair’s Miami Beach edition, and they include outfits such as the young Bowery gallery Lomex; Clearing, of Brussels and Brooklyn; and the Dallas space And Now.
Also here for the first time are a few German galleries: Natalia Hug; Rob Tufnell and Clages, from Cologne; and Dan Gunn, from Berlin.
Galleries that were in the fair last December but are not on the new list include New York spaces such as David Lewis, the Journal Gallery, Mitchell Algus, and Foxy Production. The Art Basel Miami Beach exhibitor list is typically released in early September; perhaps some of the galleries absent from the NADA list will be on it.
NADA Miami Beach will open to VIPs at 10 a.m. on Thursday, December 7, at the Deauville Beach Resort, and then open to the public at 2 p.m. that same day.
