NADA Miami, the New Art Dealers Alliance’s fair during Art Basel Miami Beach in December, will be moving to the Fontainebleau Hotel on Collins Avenue for its 2015 edition. NADA opened in Miami in 2003, and in 2009 moved to the Deauville Beach Resort, in North Miami Beach, where the fair remained through last year.
In 2015, NADA will move to a large ballroom in the labyrinthine Fontainebleau. Heather Hubbs, NADA’s cofounder, said she wasn’t sure if the fair will be “the same exact size or a little smaller, but it won’t be bigger and we’re not looking to expand,” adding that the perks are more about location than space.
“Being a little closer to Art Basel isn’t a bad thing,” she said, referring to the main fair in Miami Beach, held in the convention center near the Fontainebleau (“near” being relative to how horrendous the traffic is; it’s a little less than 3 miles away).
The hotel is also situated next to the Miami outpost of the private club Soho House, an inevitable draw for many collectors, dealers, drunken revelers, etc. Given how the city is laid out, there aren’t a lot of options for a satellite fair the size of NADA wanting to be close to the convention center.
“I don’t really have an interest in doing a tent show on the beach,” Hubbs said, “because so many people have done it. And the Fontainebleau, it’s not the first time we’ve considered going there, it just kind of worked out this time.”
