After eight years on New York’s Lower East Side, On Stellar Rays will close. The gallery announced today that, instead, Candice Madey, the operation’s owner, will launch Stellar Projects, which will be open by appointment only and feature shows by the gallery’s same roster of artists.
On Stellar Rays first opened on 133 Orchard Street in 2008. After being in that space for five years, the gallery moved to the second floor of 1 Rivington Street, and then, last year, the gallery took over the ground-floor level in an expansion that gave the same space a different entrance with an address on Bowery. The new Stellar Projects guise will return to the original second-floor space to be accessed on Rivington.
On Stellar Rays’s artist roster currently includes Athanasios Argianas, Julia Bland, Debo Eilers, Rochelle Feinstein, Zipora Fried, Tamar Halpern, Tommy Hartung, John Houck, Ryan Mrozowski, Alix Pearlstein, and JJ PEET. The gallery is currently staging an Argianas solo exhibition that will close on June 25. The announcement of the closure said that fall programming plans are forthcoming.
