Palais de Tokyo and Expo Chicago announced today the list of 13 artists who will contribute work to an exhibition that will be held during the sixth edition of this year’s Expo Chicago, taking place September 13–17. The event—held in partnership with the Institut français, the DuSable Museum of African American History, and the cultural services of the United States French embassy—will mark the Paris museum’s first show on U.S. soil, forming part of its Hors les Murs program, which holds offsite exhibitions at major international art events.
The exhibition will bring together emerging artists from Chicago and Paris to explore, according to a news release, “the multiple relationships between art and architecture.” This will involve the artists presenting both new and pre-existing work that will be housed within the Roundhouse, a former horse stable and the oldest building in South Chicago’s Washington Park neighborhood.
“The singularity of the Roundhouse makes it an ideal space to develop the exhibit outside of Paris,” said Palais de Tokyo’s curator, Katell Jaffrès, in a statement. “The structures or ‘stations’ that the artists will create will each act as an architectural intervention within the exhibition, inducting action into the exhibition space, and creating an accommodation and correspondence between the sculptures, installations or video works by the other artists in the show.”

A month prior to the exhibition, these artists will gather together to foment their ideas during a residency partnership at Mana Contemporary Chicago. The artists will also take part in a series of public programming at the Roundhouse during the weekend of Expo Chicago.
