Pictures at an Exhibition presents images of one notable show every weekday.
Today’s show:“Philip Guston: Laughter in the Dark, Drawings from 1971 & 1975” is on view at Hauser & Wirth in New York through January 14, 2017. The solo exhibition, which opened last week, is tied to the conclusion of the 2016 election saga in the United States. It presents some 180 drawings that Guston did during Nixon’s presidency and a few drawings and one painting from 1975, when the artist revisited the series, after Nixon’s resignation.
