The 23rd edition of the Armory Show opens to the public on Thursday, March 2, with a preview day on Wednesday, March 1. This year’s fair is the first to be fully planned by Ben Genocchio, who came on board as director only a couple of months before the 2016 edition opened. The fair, which will bring together over 200 galleries from 30 countries, returns to New York’s West Side, on Piers 92 and 94. Unlike the previous editions, the modern art exhibitors won’t be separated from the contemporary art exhibitors, but instead will be interspersed throughout. This preview will look at the galleries in the main “Gallery” section of the fair; Part 2 will show work from exhibitors in the four other sections. Among the highlights are Alfredo Jaar at Galerie Lelong, Betye Saar at Roberts & Tilton, and Joseph Kosuth at Vistamare of Italy.
