The M+ museum and the Hong Kong Arts Development Council announced today that Samson Young will bring new works to a collateral exhibition at the 2017 Venice Biennale. Hong Kong–based curator Ying Kwok will organize the show.
Young is best known for his sound pieces, which look at how the noise made by war, bells, and Gameboys construct identity and nationality. The Hong Kong–based artist’s work draws on the legacy of avant-garde music, and his art has appeared at both exhibitions and music festivals. At this time of writing, there are no details yet about the project Young will bring to the upcoming Biennale.
“I am naturally thrilled, and feel very honoured to have been given the opportunity to represent my native Hong Kong within such an important international context,” Young said in a statement. “I look forward to collaborating with the curatorial team in the months to come.”
