Today, exactly one year after it announced plans to move to a new space next to the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, John Berggruen Gallery revealed new details about its plans for the location, which is right next door to the Gagosian Gallery that opened in the City by the Bay earlier this year.
Berggruen, a San Francisco stalwart since 1970, will open the new gallery on January 13 with “The Human Form,” an exhibition focused on figurative art by blue-chip artists, including Matisse, Picasso, de Kooning, Lichtenstein, Diebenkorn, Thiebaud, Richter, Cecily Brown, and Kiki Smith.
The renovated gallery measures 10,000 feet, with two floors of gallery space and another floor of project and event space. Other shows on the calendar include solo outings by Stanley Whitney, Tom Sachs, Diana Al-Hadid, and Sarah Morris, as well as historical exhibitions.
