Shave Stuart/Modern Art Awarded 2015 Frieze London Stand Prize

Frieze London announced today that London’s Stuart Shave/Modern Art gallery has won this year’s Stand Prize, for outstanding presentation by a gallery. In recognition of Stuart Shave/Modern Art’s display of the artists Mark Flood and Yngve Holen, the London-based gallery was awarded £10,000 (or about $15,300) and a formidably sized bottle of Pommery Champagne, the official sponsors of the award. (No joke, they got a Jeroboam bottle, which is equivalent to four regular bottles of Champagne.)

In selecting Stuart Shave/Modern Art, the jury—Maria Balshaw (director of the Whitworth Art Gallery in Manchester), Bart van der Heide (the chief curator of Amsterdam’s Stedelijk Museum), and Jens Hoffmann (deputy director of the Jewish Museum in New York)—praised the gallery’s stand for creating an “intellectual and formal dialogue between the two artists.”

The jury also awarded a Special Commendation to five galleries for their presentations of their stands: The Approach, London; Experimenter, Kolkata, India; Galerija Gregor Podnar, Berlin; Casas Riegner, Bogotá, Colombia; and Jessica Silverman Gallery, San Francisco.
