Contemporary Istanbul announced today that Silvia Koch will be the director of the Turkish art fair’s 10th edition. Koch comes from artnet, where she oversaw galleries from Berlin and London for the past seven years.
Currently slated for November, the 10th edition of Contemporary Istanbul will continue to bring together contemporary art galleries from across the world. This year marks the introduction of CI Education, a series of educational programs, and CI Art Initiatives, which allows non-profit organizations to show projects.
Koch comes to Contemporary Istanbul at an important moment in the fair’s nine-year history. An ARTnews graphic from February revealed that Contemporary Istanbul is the fifth-most attended art fair in the world. The diverse group of collectors that attend the fair has contributed to Contemporary Istanbul’s popularity.
“I am extremely delighted to have the opportunity to work for Contemporary Istanbul, the most established art fair in the region and I am looking forward to introducing galleries from East and West to the established and emerging collectors, museums, art critics and art lovers, and vice versa,” Koch said in a statement.
