Two years after opening Team Bungalow steps off the main drag in Venice Beach, California, Team Gallery is opening another Los Angeles space just a few blocks away, a gallery representative told ARTnews in an email. The new space, dubbed Team Satellite, will be housed in a 1,000-square-foot renovated former post office, built in 1928, at 310 Venice Way. It officially opens January 29 of next year, but at the moment it’s being used to show work by artists on the roster—including Cory Arcangel, Ryan McGinley, and Carina Brandes—and is open for private viewings.
Team added that, once the space opens in January, the programming will run concurrently with Team Bungalow, which is just four minutes away on foot. It’s also just blocks from the beach. So chill.
The expansion comes a few months after Team announced it would be closing its space on Wooster Street, which was a block away from its other SoHo gallery, on Grand Street, which remains. Team now has more galleries in Los Angeles than New York, where the gallery was founded in 1996, originally in Chelsea. In a recent conversation, gallery owner Jose Freire noted that the rent is much cheaper in Los Angeles.
