Isaac Lyles, of Chelsea’s Derek Eller Gallery, is headed uptown to join Tilton Gallery as a director.
“I’ve had three and a half great years as the associate director at Derek Eller Gallery and Tilton Gallery is the perfect next step for me,” Lyles told ARTnews. “Jack Tilton has a remarkable history and I want to be a part of that. At Tilton Gallery, I will be doing sales, liaising with artists, curating exhibitions, and helping to develop the program.”
Tilton, which opened in 1983, shows artists likes Egan Frantz, Yashua Klos, Brenna Youngblood, John Outterbridge, Simone Leigh, and David Lynch.
Lyles’s last day at Eller is tomorrow, Friday, August 8, which is also the day that the group show he curated there, “New Hells,” ends its run. He also recently organized a show at Brooklyn’s 247365 that is up through August 18. He starts at Tilton in September.
“I have nothing but love and appreciation and respect for Derek and Abby [Messitte],” Lyles said. “It’s been a remarkable time, and they’ve given me so many opportunities, and I’ve learned so much.”
