Screening and Talk: An Evening With James Richards at MoMA
These MoMA “Evening With…” events are always a great time—a little film, some smart discussion: just love it. This one is devoted to Turner Prize nominee James Richards, who appears in the museum’s “Cut to Swipe” exhibition, which opens October 11. MoMA’s Stuart Comer, who organized the show, will moderate, and writer Chris McCormack will chat with Richards. Should be a nice time.

Exhibition: “Marisol: Sculptures and Works on Paper” at El Museo del Barrio
The wildly underrated Marisol, who perhaps best known for the funny, spooky, revealing sculptural portraits that she began making in the 1960s, will have her first solo show at a New York museum at the age of 84. The sculptures will be here, but drawings will join the action as well. Should be an illuminating affair.

Elizabeth Jaeger’s first solo exhibition at Jack Hanley will feature at the opening a “continuously looping performance” called DRAFT, which was coreographed by Madeline Hollander.

Sometimes Wikipedia puts it best: “Bell-Smith’s work utilizes digital forms to explore the use of popular technologies in contemporary visual culture.” Will Bugs Bunny actually make an appearance? You’ll just have to swing by to find out.

Opening: Melissa Gordon, “Mimetic Pleasures” at Boesky East
Melissa Gordon will display a new batch of paintings at Marianne Boesky’s Lower East Side outpost. The works, according to the gallery, “revolve around the question ‘Who gets to be abstract?'”
