Rhizome, the online art and technology organization, announced the line-up today for its annual Seven on Seven conference, in which seven artists are paired with seven technologists, who then create works together over the course of one day, present them to the public, and discuss them. The event will be held at the New Museum, where Rhizome is an affiliate-in-residence, on May 2. This year’s Seven on Seven, its seventh edition, is themed “Empathy and Disguise.”
In what is sure to be the most hotly anticipated pairing, Chinese-American artist and activist Ai Weiwei will work with Jacob Appelbaum, who helped Edward Snowden leak government documents about surveillance in 2013. Another star-studded pairing is the Turner Prize-nominated British conceptual artist Liam Gillick and Nate Silver, the political analyst famous for accurately predicting the 2008 U.S. presidential election results on his blog FiveThirtyEight.
The other five pairings will be:
- Stanya Kahn and Rus Yusopov
- Martine Syms and Gina Trapani
- Trevor Paglen and Mike Kreiger
- Hannah Black and thricedotted
- Camille Henrot and Harlo Holmes
Though a regular ticket costs $125, $40 tickets are available by lottery and can be applied for online.
