The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, Missouri, announced this morning that it has hired Dr. Aimee Marcereau DeGalan, the former chief curator at the Dayton Art Institute in Ohio, as its new senior curator of European art, effective November 1.
Since joining DAI in 2012, DeGalan curated 24 exhibitions and helped raise major funds for restoration and research. In her new position, DeGalan, who holds a specialist knowledge in British and French 18th and 19th century art, will oversee both curation and acquisition efforts related to the museum’s European collections.
DeGalan’s first major project will be to unveil the Bloch Collection’s gift of 29 Impressionist and Post-Impressionist works to the museum. The opening is currently planned for March 2017.
In a press statement, Nelson-Atkins director Julián Zugazagoitia said, “The timing of this important addition to our staff could not be better. Aimee’s scholarship will be immediately called upon as we prepare to open the Bloch Galleries in the spring, and she will continue the important work that has begun on our catalogue of French paintings.”
