The American Federation of Arts has appointed Frances Wu Giarratano director of exhibitions. Giarratano will join AFA in New York, where she will help coordinate the organization’s exhibition program with a view toward growing its global network of affiliated institutions.
Giarratano was previously the deputy director of Para Site, a contemporary art space in Hong Kong. Prior to that, she was the associate director of exhibitions for the New York Independent Curators International (ICI). In that position, Giarratano oversaw the organization’s international touring exhibitions as well as its publications, which have included Martha Wilson Sourcebook (2011) and Hans Ulrich Obrist’s do it: the compendium (2013).
In a statement, Pauline Willis, the AFA’s director and CEO, made note of Giarratano’s experience and said it “will allow the AFA to bring exhibitions of the world’s diverse and enriching artistic expressions to even more communities across the globe.”
