The Minneapolis Star Tribune has reported that Andrew Blauvelt, the design director and curator at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, is exiting the institution after 17 years of service to become director at the Cranbrook Art Museum outside Detroit. (Thank you to Artforum for pointing us to the story.)
In a memo, Walker director Olga Viso called Blauvelt—who will start work at Cranbrook this October—a “vital strategic thinker.” The Star Tribune noted that Blauvelt is the second senior curatorial staffer to depart from the Walker in the past 18 months. His most recent show at the center is called “Hippie Modernism: The Struggle for Utopia” and heads to the Cranbrook after its debut in Minneapolis this October.
