An arctic blast has hit San Antonio, Texas, forcing institutions around the city to close. Among them is the McNay Art Museum, which closed today to protect the safety of its staff, citing hazardous road conditions.
The San Antonio Museum of Art also closed today. On Twitter earlier this morning, the museum said that it expects to reopen for normal business hours tomorrow.
San Antonio is currently experiencing what is being called an “Arctic cold front.” Although only half an inch of snow is expected to accumulate, wind gusts are predicted to reach 25 to 35 miles per hour. A combination of freezing rain and sleet has left roads slicked with ice, and, earlier today, the National Weather Service advised against driving around the city. Some colleges and university around the city have also announced that their campuses will close for the day.
