Last March, Art Basel announced its Art Basel Cities initiative, which was conceived as an attempt to expand the fair’s reach by working with metropolitan hubs on “high-profile cultural events with international reach.” Today the fair announced the first partner in this new program: Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina.
According to a release, the Buenos Aires initiative, which starts in late 2017, will be “mutually enriching in the sense that it will bring world-class programming to Buenos Aires and will spotlight the city’s rich cultural scene for the international art world. The program will take into account the city’s current cultural landscape, programming, infrastructure, and resources, and how they align with its urban and economic vision.”
Art Basel is still working on the specific happenings that will make up the “bespoke program” for Buenos Aires, and will announce those projects at a later date.
