ArtPrize, the Grand Rapids, Michigan–based art competition, announced today that it will partner with Independent Curators International for its 2016 edition. The New York–based nonprofit will now collaborate on ArtPrize’s Emerging Curators program, which debuted at last year’s competition.
The four fellows selected for the program will assist curators from the Grand Rapids Art Museum, the Kendall College of Art and Design, SiTE:LAB, and the Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts on shows. Additionally, each fellow will curate their own exhibition. The fellowship comes with a stipend. $40,000 will be divided evenly between the fellows and the institutions they’ll be working with.
“Now in its second year, our Fellowship for Emerging Curators program provides a really unique opportunity for emerging curators to gain experience working with curators at ArtPrize institutional venues,” Kevin Buist, ArtPrize’s exhibitions director, said in a statement. “This partnership with ICI will take the fellowship program to the next level, encouraging the already burgeoning growth of curatorial practice in the region, through the ArtPrize event and beyond.”
ArtPrize is currently accepting applications on its site. In order to be applicable for consideration, fellows must be living or working in the Midwest. The deadline is on March 17, so act fast!
