Ahead of a collaboration with Mark Bradford for the U.S. Pavilion in the upcoming Venice Biennale, the Baltimore Museum of Art has acquired a video and a painting by the Los Angeles–based artist, as well as works by Paul Chan, Ellsworth Kelly, and Norman Lewis.
Among the works added to the museum’s collection is Chan’s 1st Light, a 2005 light projection that shows what appears to be rubble and people falling. Shown on the floor like the reflecting from a window, it recalls images of September 11, 2001.
