Today’s show: “Bouchra Khalili: Foreign Office” is currently on view at Palais de Tokyo in Paris until Sunday, May 17. The show features new films, photographs, and documents that examine Algiers’s position as the new capital of Algeria in the decade after the country’s independence from France, 1962–72, and as a refuge for different revolutionary groups, including the international section of the Black Panthers and Nelson Mandela’s African National Congress. While the photographs show the different contact points of these organizations within Algiers, the film focuses on the different ways in which the history of this period is told, retold, and questioned.
