COURTESY RANDOM HOUSE
The list for the Conversations and Salon sectors of Art Basel Miami Beach was released today, and while there are plenty of scintillating panels on the docket, one will offer decidedly more than zero: a chat between the novelist Bret Easton Ellis and the artist Alex Israel, moderated by curator Hans Ulrich Obrist.
There’s no indication as to what the conversation will entail apart from its title, “LA Then and Now,” which is a topic both should be well-versed in, given the city’s prominence in their work. As for the choice of moderator, perhaps Obrist is a big fan of The Canyons.
If you just can’t wait to see these two in action come December, sate your anticipation with a video of Ellis and Israel on the artist’s fake talk show, As It Lays, and a conversation between the two of them in Purple.
And, also in the Salon program: a panel entitled “The Ethics of Art Advising,” moderated by ARTnews editor-in-chief Sarah Douglas. It’s on Friday at 3:00 p.m.
