The next face of Britain’s 20-pound note–which for the first time ever will be anointed with the help of the UK public–is set to be some sort of a creative figure, The New York Times reports today.
The Times writes that “Mark Carney, the Governor of the Bank of England, said that artists, sculptors, ceramicists, craftsmen, designers, architects and filmmakers are eligible as long as they are not alive or fictional.” Although the selection process will include consultation with the British public, the final choice is up to Carney.
Meanwhile in America–where the faces on our bank notes change far less frequently than our British counterparts–our $20 bill is also undergoing some potential serious change, with heavy lobbying to replace Andrew Jackson’s face with that of Harriet Tubman.
