The Bronx Museum announced today that José A. Ortiz has been appointed the museum’s new deputy director.
Ortiz comes from Artisphere, the arts center in Arlington, Virginia, where he served as executive director. There, he obtained sponsorship for “Frida Kahlo: Her Photos” and curated “Andy Warhol: Silver Clouds.” In the past, he has also been the deputy director of the Harvard Art Museums and an administration manager at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
“I am delighted to be joining Holly Block in leading this internationally recognized and important cultural institution as it launches into a period of ambitious growth,” Ortiz said in a statement. “Over the past years I have admired the Bronx Museum from afar, and now it will be exciting to play a pivotal role in its continued expansion.”
