The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles has appointed Bryan Barcena as assistant curator and manager of publications. He began in both positions on January 1.
In 2015, Barcena became a research assistant for Latin American art at MOCA, and most recently co-curated the museum’s Anna Maria Maiolino survey, which was part of the Getty Foundation–funded Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA initiative, and an exhibition of new works by Adrián Villar Rojas. From 2013 to 2016, he was a curatorial assistant at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston.
MOCA’s chief curator, Helen Molesworth, said in a statement, “His work on the Anna Maria Maiolino and Adrián Villar Rojas exhibitions was essential to their success. His engagement with artists of his generation is sharp and concise, and his overall knowledge of post-World War II Latin American art is a huge resource for MOCA.”
