Pittsburgh’s Carnegie Museum of Art announced today that it has tapped Eric Crosby, the associate curator of visual arts at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, to be its new Richard Armstrong Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art. He starts in the new role in October.
Crosby had been at the Walker since 2009, where his curatorial credits included Liz Deschenes’s first solo museum outing and a rehang of part of the Walker’s permanent collection that focused on its extensive Fluxus holdings.
The Armstrong position opened up at the end of last year, when Dan Byers, who had held it since mid 2012, was hired by the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston as senior curator.
“For well over a century, the Carnegie has defined the horizon of contemporary art as we know it by advancing the ideas and endeavors of living artists,” Crosby said in a statement released to press. “Framing that esteemed history and shaping its future will be at the core of my work here.”
The job announcement also notes that Crosby will help acquire work from the forthcoming Carnegie International, which is on tap for fall 2018.
