Today, the Art Production Fund announced that its executive director, Casey Fremont, will assume full management of the non-profit, effective immediately. In her new role, Fremont takes on the day-to-day management duties previously held by APF co-founders Yvonne Force Villareal and Doreen Remen, who will continue to serve as board presidents of the organization for the next two years. It was further announced that Marlies Verhoeven, a co-founder of The Cultivist, will join APF’s board in January 2017. (Disclosure: Fremont is the daughter of the CEO of the parent company of ARTnews, Vincent Fremont.)
Since joining APF in 2004, Fremont has helped organize a number of public arts projects including Elmgreen & Dragset’s Prada Marfa, Josephine Meckseper’s Manhattan Oil Project, and most recently, Ugo Rondinone’s land-art installation Seven Magic Mountains in the Nevada desert.
In a statement, Remen and Villareal said, “After 16 years APF is thriving because of the talent, dedication, and support of many wonderful artists, patrons, and an enthusiastic public. We are thrilled to hand the reins to Casey to guide its next chapter.” Fremont, in turn, stated a desire for continuing the legacy as well as “expanding APF’s programming throughout the U.S.”
Update, November 18, 4:50 p.m.: In other APF news, philanthropist Mike De Paola has agreed to join the organization’s board in January.
