Iowa’s Cedar Rapids Museum of Art announced today that it has hired Kate Kunau, a Ph.D. candidate and teaching assistant at the University of Iowa, as associate curator of collections and exhibitions.
Kunau was an intern in the CRMA’s curatorial department in 2010 and 2012, and also worked as an intern in the McNay Art Museum in San Antonio, Texas.

Kunau’s publications include: Artist biographies in Estampas de la Raza: Contemporary Prints from the Romo Collection, published by the University of Texas Press (2012); artist biographies and artwork analysis for Majority Rules: A Decade of Contemporary Art Acquisitions, published by McNay Art Museum (2012); and “Andy Warhol: Fame and Misfortune,” a synopsis of Warhol exhibition in 10 West Living (2012).
The CRMA traces its founding back to 1905, and in addition to its own 63,000-square-foot home, owns the building that houses the studio used by Grant Wood when he painted American Gothic (1930), which is in the collection of the Art Institute of Chicago.
