COURTESY MIXED GREENS
In a blog post last week, Chelsea gallery Mixed Greens announced that it will close at the end of this year. The gallery, which has been open since 1999, is devoted to contemporary art by emerging and mid-career artists. Its final slate of shows includes solo exhibitions of work by Naomi Reis, Joan Linder, and Donna Dennis, as well as window shows of work by Brendan Fernandes and Mollie Murphy. The last show, Dennis’s exhibition, closes on December 22.
“Together, we look back on our history and take great pride in the work we have done with hundreds of exceptional artists,” the gallery wrote in a statement on its Tumblr. “It has been a fun, inspiring, and deeply enriching journey for all of us. As individuals, we will remain friends, co-conspirators, and ardent supporters of the artists we have shown and look forward to new beginnings for everyone.”
UPDATE 08/04/15 11:15 a.m.: Mixed Greens has emailed ARTnews a statement signed by the gallery’s founder, Paige West. The gallery says that it is closing because its lease is up in January, and that it has no plans to reopen.
