Jeremiah Moss reports in New York’s Metro newspaper that La Lunchonette, the 26-year-old no-nonsense French restaurant at 10th Avenue and 18th Street, now faces potential closure, and Melva Max (who owns the restaurant with her husband Jean-Francois Fraysse) blames the High Line.
From that column:
“The neighborhood is so gross now,” Melva says. “It’s all tourists coming for the High Line. People always say, ‘But wasn’t it great for you?’ The High Line has been the cause of my demise.”
“My landlord’s not a bad guy,” she added. “But how you can you say no to offers of $30 million?” She has until June 2015, she says, to find a new spot for her business.
