Christie’s Announces More Top Lots for Impressionist and Modern Sale in New York

Christie’s has announced further highlights for its Impressionist and Modern sale on November 5 in New York in addition to Edouard Manet’s Le Printemps, the lead lot, which is expected fetch $25-35 million. Fernand Léger’s Les constructeurs avec arbre is the auction’s other centerpiece, with an estimate of $16-22 million.

Other works in the sale include Claude Monet’s Port-Coton: Le Lion (estimated at $3-5 million), Pierre Auguste-Renoir’s La jeune fille au cygne ($5-7 million), a batch of three Magrittes, a number of cubist works by Picasso, Joan Miró’s Tuilerie à Mont-roig ($5-7 million), and Henri Matisse’s Nu assis, fond bleu ($4-6 million).

About 80 percent of the 40 works in the sale have been exhibited in museums, Christie’s notes in a release. In a statement, Brooke Lampley, Christie’s head of Impressionist and Modern art, said, “Matisse’s Nu assis, fond bleu and a suite of cubist works by Picasso, Braque, Gris and Severini, are particularly thrilling to offer alongside the openings of the ‘Henri Matisse: The Cut-Outs’ and ‘Cubism: The Leonard A. Lauder Collection’ exhibitions at MoMA and The Met.”
