Condo, the program that stages gallery shares in cities around the world, has announced the participants for its 2018 London edition, which will take open on January 13 and run through February 10. Nineteen London galleries will work together to host 27 out-of-towners, from cities as far flung as Porto, Guatemala City, and Tokyo.
The first edition of Condo was held in London in 2016. Founded by the gallerist Vanessa Carlos, who owns the London gallery Carlos/Ishikawa, the program was designed as an alternative to the art-fair model. Its mandate was to help young galleries by allowing them to show abroad at a low cost—they only had to pay installation fees and rent.
Another edition of Condo was held in London in 2017; this will be the program’s third British gallery share. Simone Subal and Chapter NY’s Nicole Russo went on to found a New York version this past summer, and Ana Castella and Lorraine Malingue are planning Condos for Mexico City and Shanghai, respectively.
