The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Iris and Gerald B. Cantor Roof Garden will play host to an installation by British sculptor Cornelia Parker. The commissioned work is still in-progress, but Parker had this to say, in an interview with The Art Newspaper: “It’s very hard to compete with the view of New York. I’m trying to make something that will complement the view.” (She also mentioned, in an ironic twist for her forthcoming rooftop display, that she has vertigo.) The show, which is Parker’s first solo exhibition at a U.S. museum, will likely be on view from May to October in 2016.
In a statement quoted by The New York Times, Sheena Wagstaff, the Met’s chairwoman of modern and contemporary art, said that Parker’s installations, “[open] our eyes to the special qualities–and sometimes darker significance–of familiar places and things we tend to overlook.”
