Today, the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, located in Bentonville, Arkansas, announced that Lauren Haynes would be joining the museum as curator of contemporary art.
Haynes comes to the Crystal Bridges from the Studio Museum in Harlem, where she has been since 2006, currently serving as associate curator of the permanent collection. She starts in her new job in October.
In a statement released by the Crystal Bridges Museum, Haynes said:
I am thrilled to be joining the Crystal Bridges team. I have closely watched all of the work being done there since the museum’s founding and I look forward to helping grow the contemporary art program. Crystal Bridges and the Studio Museum share a commitment to bringing innovative and challenging artworks and exhibitions to broad and diverse audiences. I can’t wait to bring the perspective I’ve developed over the past ten years to Crystal Bridges and the Northwest Arkansas community.
With Ian Berry, Haynes curated the great Alma Thomas retrospective that is on view at the Studio Museum through October 30.
