David Zwirner gallery has named Leo Xu and Jennifer Yum the directors of its new Hong Kong space. Originally slated to open in the fall of this year, the Annabelle Selldorf–designed gallery will now be inaugurated on January 27, 2018 with a show of new paintings by Michaël Borremans.
Xu currently runs his own Shanghai gallery, Leo Xu Projects, which he founded in 2011. He had previously been the director of James Cohan Gallery’s Shanghai space and, before that, the founding director of Beijing’s Chambers Fine Art gallery.
Yum was the vice president and head of morning sales in the postwar and contemporary art department at Christie’s New York branch. She has also been the head of sales in the postwar and contemporary art department of Christie’s in Shanghai and headed up her own art advisory firm.
In a statement, David Zwirner praised the “talented and experienced” team that Xu and Yum would be heading up. “Starting in January, I can’t wait to introduce the gallery’s artists to a new global audience,” Zwirner said.
