The imprint represents a hefty undertaking for the gallery, which hopes to publish 15 to 20 books a year, working with artists both represented by the gallery and those that aren’t. The imprint will be run by Todd Bradway, formerly of Artbook | D.A.P., who joined the gallery in April.
David Zwirner Books will make its debut at the New York Art Book fair at MoMA PS1 and Whitechapel Gallery’s London Art Book Fair, both at the end of September.
Update 8/21 An earlier version of this post mistakenly called the building in which the books would be designed and also displayed for sale, a “publishing house and book store.” David Zwirner partner Julia Joern asked that we use her preferred term of “book showroom,” and went on to add, among other things, “We certainly do not want to be in competition with bookstores. On the contrary, we want to support them — and have already been doing our public book events at The Strand, etc.” ARTnews stands corrected and salutes the bibliological passion so clearly evident at David Zwirner gallery.
